In the October issue of Wired Magazine, a lengthy article appears on the ID movement. ID is portrayed as the "next generation of creation science". As is customary with pieces such as this, pejorative and misleading language is used describing ID, and the debate is framed as that between the unequivocal truth of Darwinism vs the "beliefs" of misguided religious folk.
The article closes with these words: "But in science, not all theories are equal. Those that survive decades - centuries - of scientific scrutiny end up in classrooms, and those that don't are discarded. The intelligent design movement is using scientific rhetoric to bypass scientific scrutiny. And when science education is decided by charm and stage presence, the Discovery Institute wins."
What the author fails to realize is that some bad theories can be held for long periods of time, and then, despite the mounting evidence against such theories, continue to be clutched. When the "light comes on" in minds that are not disingenuous, the paradigm shift begins to occur.
