The writer of this article continues to have trouble distinguishing between creationism and the intelligent design movement.
Superintendent of York schools Richard Nilsen, commenting on the book -- "Of Pandas and People: The Central Question of Biological Origins" -- says it is under review by the school board, staff and district curriculum committee.
The book was originally published by the Foundation for Thought and Ethics in 1989, and presents the theory of "intelligent design". The book questions the science behind Darwinism.
Board member, William Buckingham said "it is important to distinguish between the concept of creationism, which refers to God and the creation story in the Bible, and intelligent design, which states that some being caused life to begin somehow. He said the distinction is important because intelligent design is not specific to one religion".
Buckingham wants the book to be read alongside a textbook which teaches the evolutionary theory, so that students have a more balanced education on origins.
