God, Santa Claus and the Nature of Reality

Summary by Tom Magnuson

With incoherent leaps of logic, the author of God, Santa Claus and the Nature of Reality, Keith Cantrell, dismisses the existence of a transcendent designer with a few assertions. This is a good article to read to see how the "other side" thinks.

Mr. Cantrell says that a perfect, personal transcendent creator would have to create "perfect" creations. Of course, the question arises, what is a "perfect" design. And, given the universe this designer has chosen to create, a thing which is optimally designed, may not appear "perfect" to some who invest little thought. Whose to judge, with our imperfect knowledge of how things fit into the grand scheme. In the Jewish scriptures, God chastises Job for questioning His designs and intentions.

Cantrell's "inevitable conclusion" is that "since design is a direct reflection of the character of the designer, and there is no perfect design, and since no one is willing to accept the possibility of an imperfect God, we can only conclude that there is none." Period.

Cantrell also wrongly asserts that "religion is THE source of bigotry, hatred, prejudice, discrimination and all forms of intolerance. It serves no purpose except to divide us." And atheism is all that is right and good? Hilter, Stalin, Mao, and Cantrell would be fast friends. People who reject God are NEVER intolerant? WOW...
